Perched on the slopes of Mont Arbois at an altitude of 1850 meters, a new luxury hotel has opened this season called “Le Refuge Chez la Tante”. The Refuge is accessible either by ski from Megève or St Gervais (the hotel will arrange luggage transfer) or via St Gervais on the gondolas. Once you arrive at the top of the lift, the refuge will meet you with their horse-drawn carriage.
The Refuge is beautifully decorated in a cozy mountain style. The 20 rooms are charming and well equipped with breathtaking views. There is also a penthouse that acts as a mini chalet within the hotel perfect for a family. The penthouse has a very cute dormitory that sleeps 4, a separate parental ensuite room as well as a living area and kitchen.
Only a one-hour drive from Geneva, the Refuge offers a romantic and rejuvenating unique experience. As all the skiers disappear from the mountain, the guests are left alone with only the staff and the pisteurs cleaning the slopes. It is then time to enjoy the spa area, with a beautiful indoor swimming pool, sauna, hammam and relaxation area. One can partake in one of the spa treatments or use the onsite gym. Snow shoes are available for those wishing to take a hike. As the sun starts to set, enjoy the views and a delicious cocktail. Dinner is served in a cozy room near a fireplace. The highlight was the bowling alley in a speakeasy atmosphere.
Waking up to the amazing views is a real treat. For those adventurous sporty individuals, it offers the option to ski down to the bottom before the slopes open to the public. Ski down and take the first lifts up in time to enjoy the delicious breakfast. The hotel offers half-board options and mid-week special deals. If you are unable to spend the night, the terrace restaurant is open to non-resident skiers for lunch. As the Refuge is brand new, it still has some opening kinks to work out particularly with service and the restaurant but all in all it is definitely worth a visit.
