Music, cinema and dialogue: Italy celebrates its mandate at the Human Rights Council through Southern Film soundtracks
On the occasion of Italy’s membership in the Human Rights Council for the 2026–2028 term, the Permanent Mission of Italy will host the concert “From Morricone to Bacalov: The Music and Screen of Southern Italian Cinema” at the Assembly Hall of the Palais des Nations on 5 February 2026.
This innovative event highlights the connection between music and cinema and stems from the EU-funded project Music4D, led by a consortium of Italian conservatories and universities dedicated to exploring the intersection of music and digital technologies.
A young orchestra will accompany the audience on a musical journey through soundtracks arranged by masters such as Ennio Morricone and Luis Bacalov, drawn from iconic films set in Southern Italy, including Il Gattopardo, Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, and The Postman.
This initiative aims to celebrate Italy’s mandate at the Human Rights Council, using the universal languages of music and cinema to foster mutual understanding, cultural cooperation, and ultimately peace among nations.
